Gone But Not Forgotten

Bob followed in the footsteps of his father and preferred to trap fox but took coyote in those sets also.

Bob raised silver fox at his home in Stratham for seven years until the market for pelts dropped off after the 1987 stock market crash. Bob and his father had a lure and urine business going as a sideline from the fox farming, they tested the products on their own traplines.

Bob is shown here making his winter supply of wax dirt for late season fox trapping.

Bone dry and pre sifted dirt is covered with flake wax and the direct sun light melts the wax into the dirt making it waterproof and therefore freeze proof.

Bob's father was a serious trapper from New York State shown here with a big fox catch circa 1930.

Bob with his wife, kids, and father Josh would often head up to Olson's Trapper Weekend in August for a good time.

Bob's father Josh had trapped in New York for most of his life from early childhood and up into his 90's. In 1981 the New York State Trappers Association awarded Josh Phoenix the Trapper of The Year Award. At the age of 92 Josh came to live with his son and family in Stratham until his death at age 96.
